Season 7 Episode 31
Made up of three members and one 12-year old B-boy, the Azanian Flames are a hip-hop crew from Strand focused on uplifting the community, promoting the “consciousness of reality” and sharing stories from life experience. They emphasize a need to move away from rap that focuses on drugs, money, sex and violence and instead, create content that can credibly discuss aspects of life in South Africa. Their first-hand experiences of abuse, domestic violence and gangsterism culminates into a therapeutic chance to relay and move forward from past injustice.
In this episode we hear from each member of the group as they share why they create the music that they do, how they started on this career path and why it has kept them out of darker parts of township life.
