Since 2008 Street Talk TV, an NPO & thus a small organisation, has filmed and broadcasted over 650 conversations in a weekly television series to audiences across Southern Africa. This unique methodology brings awareness to issues which would often not be addressed in mainstream media. The audience is able to engage with these issues on free to air platforms which have an extensive reach into marginalised communities nationwide. Conversations and debates take place in these communities and so bring about understanding, creating a more tolerant and just society, amplifying the voices of the disadvantaged and building confidence. Thus creating an enabling platform to promote active citizenship through the medium of film.

About the role – Street Talk TV is looking for a Grants / Fundraising officer to initially start off on a part time / consultant contract. The role can possibly grow to a permanent position dependent on Funding. The role is a senior role which requires an all-rounder with a passion for the community and an interest in film and media and the impact the sector has on marginalised communities in South Africa. The immediate and long-term vision is to establish sustainable funding for the Organisation as well as creating a credible stakeholder reach in South Africa, Africa and beyond. The Grants / Fundraising officer will be reporting to you. This is a remote role but preference will be given to Cape Town-based applicants. 

Critical areas that this role is expected to impact and influence.
∙ Engage and manage the Grants / Fundraising officer
∙ Willingness to share knowledge & experience with small team
∙ An all-rounder who will manage the Organisation’s Operations
∙ Host meetings and ensure minutes from this are actioned
∙ Develop & implement a fundraising plan to grow and sustain income
∙ Efficient management of all donor contracts
∙ Budgeting & financial management, liaison
∙ Strong verbal & written communication skills
∙ Oversee the Human resources management
∙ Assist with strategic objectives of the organisation
∙ Work as a core member of the team in producing quality films for broadcast partners
∙ Work together with teams to develop programmes and quality proposals – as set out by the criteria
∙ Develop strategic partnerships for Fundraising and Brand awareness ∙ Ability to align programmatic output with organisation’s strategic objectives and or Donor / Grant criteria
∙ Ensure that fundraising processes and administration are in place and maintained ∙ Develop reports, as required (format and metrics to be developed)

Personal Requirement
∙ Demonstrable past experience
∙ Results orientation towards own and team’s role in line with organisation’s aims & objectives
∙ Working with others
∙ Lead others & support team
∙ Self-management by demonstrating integrity, credibility, commitment, knowledgeable & confident
∙ Knowledge on various organizational ‘good practices’
∙ Ability and willingness to coordinate with team members within the region and provide team members with technical support necessary
∙ Passion for activism and a personal interest in film & media and the impact it has on communities (Awareness of sector and experience is advantageous)

Academic background
∙ University degree in Management / Development / Business Administration or in any relevant subject.
∙ Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
∙ 2 years post-qualification experience in a film & media/community development context.
∙ Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Workspace and Outlook
∙ Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, dynamic, servant-hearted and problem solver.
